Great Jobs For Kids

Great Jobs For Kids

Author: Jason Roberts

Even really young kids can make a little spending dough this day. Truly, there are many jobs out there for even the youngest kids. Look at some of these ideas to beef up your piggy bank (and perhaps your resume, too!)

Yard Work

Few adults have the time or devotion to do all their yard work. Thus, these jobs are perfect for kids to pick up! Jobs such as weeding, raking, and planting can be accomplished by even very young persons of 8-12. In fact, kindergarteners could probably do some very light work! More involved yard jobs, like gutter cleaning, deck painting, and mowing can be finished by teens (and some pre-teens). These jobs are rewarding in many ways - and the feeling of accomplishment is going to make any youngster feel great.

Household Chores

Again, many families just don't have the time to work on the "little things" like clearing out closets, organizing attics, or cleaning up the basement. That's where a savvy kid can come in and snag some of these jobs! Are they dirty? You bet! Are they hard work? Sometimes! But are they money-making opportunities? Without a doubt! These jobs will give a child a healthy respect for the importance of work and just how long it can take to make a buck!

Babysitting

This has often been one of the mainstay jobs for teens and pre-teens looking for employment. Babysitting jobs are always available; but you need to be careful. Make sure you're devoted to performing these jobs to the best of your ability; otherwise, no one will be happy. Babysitting jobs can be found by simply walking around your neighborhood and asking parents if they need a little help.

Mother's (or Father's) Helper

This is kind of like "babysitting lite". These jobs involve playing with children while the adults in the house are busy but onsite. In fact, many times, the parent is working at home at a part time business. This means that he or she, though occupied, would be available if any emergencies occur. Thus, this kind of employment is perfect for the kid who is hesitant to stay alone with his or her charge but wants to learn the art of watching children.

Pet Sitting

On a similar note, pet sitting jobs are practical for the child who is reliable and loves animals. Often, people who are going on vacation actively seek out individuals to look after their pets. Again, this is probably not one of the best jobs for a very young kid, but for any child over 12, it's a reasonable option. Just be ready to do some "dirty work" - jobs like this often involve the art of "scooping" the droppings of large mammals!

Remember that jobs are always available to the person willing to do the work. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of self-advertisement to unearth what's out there, but even the youngest workers can find something to do to make a bit of spending cash. (Or, better yet, "saving" cash!)

14 Steps You Can Take to Prevent Identity Theft:

14 Steps You Can Take to Prevent Identity Theft:
By: Etienne A. Gibbs
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act, known commonly as FACTA, was put into law in the United States to help to protect consumers from identity theft and to help in its prevention. FACTA ensures that all citizens are treated fairly when they apply for a mortgage or other form of credit and it entitles them to a free annual credit report to verify its accuracy.

Becoming a major epidemic, Identity Theft occurs when a criminal uses another person's personal information to take on that person's identity. Identity theft includes the misuse of a Social Security number, credit cards, mail fraud, scam, schemes, frauds, or any other form of misuse or abuse of a victim's identity.

There is no guarantee that you will never be a victim; however, there are steps you can take to minimize your risk. Here is a list of 14 steps you can take to prevent or at least minimize its occurrence:

1. Manage your personal information cautiously and with a new awareness that identity theft can occur anytime anywhere and when you least expect it.

2. Ask about security procedures in your workplace, doctor's office, or other business or organization that routinely collects relevant and personal identifying information as part of doing business or providing a service. Find out who has access to your personal information and verify that it is handled securely. Inquire about their disposal procedures and if your information will be shared with anyone else (namely third parties such as mailing list companies, marketing and survey companies, etc.).

3. Instead of giving your Social Security Number, inquire if you can use other types of identification. Use your Social Security Number with caution and only when absolutely necessary.

"Your Chances of becoming victimized by some form of identity theft is one in ten," according to the Federal Trade Commission.

4. If you find that you have been victimized, immediately file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC maintains a database of identity theft cases used by law enforcement agencies for investigations. Filing a complaint helps the FTC learn more about identity theft and the problems victims are having. This knowledge helps them to assist you better.

5. Carry only the identification and the number of credit and debit cards that you will actually use. Leave extra cards in a safe place at home, in a safety deposit box, or any other secured location.

6. Avoid giving out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or on the internet unless you are absolutely sure you know and can trust with whom you are communicating. Caution: Before you share personal information, be sure you are dealing with a legitimate business or organization. (If you are unsure about an online communication, check the organization's website by typing its URL in the address line. Most large companies post alerts on their sites when they are aware of a scam when their name is used improperly.)

Identity thieves usually pose as representatives of banks, lotteries, sweepstakes, internet service providers, or some other officially-sounding-entity. They will use any means possible to try to get you to reveal your valuable information.

7. Call the Customer Service Department of companies or organizations with whom you do business using the number listed on your account statement or in the telephone book.

8. Do not place passwords on your credit card, bank, or telephone accounts.

9. When choosing a password, avoid using obvious information like your mother's maiden name, your birth date, a series of consecutive numbers, or the last four digits of your Social Security Number or your phone number.

10. Pay attention to your billing cycles. A missing bill could mean an identity thief has gotten their hands on it.

"9.9 million people were victims of identity theft in 2002", according to the Federal Trade Commission. Don't wait until it happens to you.

11. Be wary of promotional scams or phony offers to get you to give them your personal information such as lottery and sweepstakes' that you have never entered and ones asking for an "administration" fee.

12. If your job requires you to suit up in special clothing at work, never leave your purse or wallet in your personal clothes. Always keep them in a safe and secured place.

13. When reordering checks, pick them up at the bank instead of having them sent to your mailbox.

14. Obtain a current credit report by contacting any of these major credit bureaus:

Equifax: P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, GA 30374-0241

For Fraud Alerts, call: 800-525-6285

MANAGING THE FEAR AND ANXIETY OF FINDING ANOTHER JOB

MANAGING THE FEAR AND ANXIETY OF FINDING ANOTHER JOB
By Stan Popovich

Layoffs in today's business world are common and with it comes the fear and anxiety of finding another job. With this in mind, here is a list of techniques that a person can use to help manage their stresses and anxieties in finding a new job.

A technique that can be used to reduce the stress of finding another job is to divide the task into a series of smaller steps and then complete each of the smaller tasks one at a time. For instance, the first thing you should do is to determine what kind of job you want. Once you know what you are looking for, the next step is to update and prepare your resume. Once that is finished, you should then concentrate on finding the companies that interest you and send your resume to them. Once you submit your resume, the next step is to prepare for the job interview. By completing these smaller tasks, you will reduce your stress and anxiety and increase your chances of finding another job.

Sometimes we may get depressed during our job search. Another technique that is very helpful is to have a small notebook of positive statements that make us feel good. Whenever you come across an affirmation that makes you feel good, write it down in a small notebook that you can carry around with you in your pocket. Whenever you feel depressed, open up your small notebook and read those statements.

In addition, it also helps to write down a list of things you are thankful for in this world. For instance: good health, a good marriage, lots of friends, being smart and resourceful, and a good education are things that any person can be thankful for. Whenever you get discouraged in finding another job, take out your list and focus on the things that make you happy. This technique will make you feel better and give you more encouragement to continue with the job search.

Sometimes, we may be nervous doing a certain task that may be scary. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in your mind. For instance, you have an interview in a few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself that your in the interview. Imagine that you are talking to the manager about your qualifications. By practicing the interview using your mind, you will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes. Self-Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress of a coming situation.

Finding a new job can be tough, however remember to take it one day at a time. While the consequences of a particular fear may seem real, there are usually other factors that can not be anticipated and can affect the results of any situation. Focus on the present and do your best each day. Next week will take care of its self.

Our anxieties and stresses can be difficult to manage when finding a new job. Managing your stress during a job search takes practice. Be patient and in time you will become better in dealing with your anxieties.

Stan Popovich is the author of "A Layman's Guide to Managing Fear Using Psychology, Christianity and Non Resistant Methods" - an easy to read book that presents a general overview of techniques that are effective in managing persistent fears and anxieties. Financial Sterwardship: 5 Essential Insights for Christians

Financial Stewardship: 5 Essential Insights for Christians
By Robert Baines

Financial stewardship, in this article, is a reference to managing the money that God placed in your trust. A steward is a manager. Stewardship is about management. Read Luke 19:12-27 with this definition in mind. Notice the following insights.

1. God owns everything. Notice in the text that the master owned the money that was given to the servants. In like manner, God owns all that we have. Our jobs, businesses, money, investments, houses, along with our bodies, relationships, and even our minds belong to God.

We are not the owners. We are simply stewards or managers of what God has placed in our trust.

2. God has given us what He believes we can manage. Notice that the master, in our text, gave the servants what he believed they could handle. Whatever God has given us, God believes that we can handle it.

Our job, our income, our business, and even our bills and creditors are allowed to be in our lives, because God believes and knows that we can handle them. We may not believe that we can handle them (smile), but God knows that we can.

And sometimes, we believe that we can handle even more. This may be true. However, we must learn to trust God's timing. God has more wealth for some of us, after some more time has passed.

Another point here is that when we get more, God expects more out of us. Therefore, we should be careful about what we ask God to give us.

3. God expects profit. Notice that the master in the text gave the servants money with the expectation that when he came back they would have more than what he gave them. So it is with God and us. God is expecting us to take what He has given us and make a profit.

Notice that neither the master nor God gives us micro detailed instructions about how to make a profit. God gives us the instruction to make a profit and leaves the details to our wise judgment.

Some will do well in stocks, others real estate, others with their business, and others with even precious medals. But all believers should understand the divine instruction to be profitable somehow with the money that God has placed in our trust.

Spending money on items that go down in value, consumer items, will not produce a profit. We must spend money on things that go up in value, assets.

Cloths, cars, jewelry, eating out, entertainment, vacations, and the like are consumer items that don't produce profit. Stocks, bonds, real estate, businesses, and the like are examples of assets that can produce profit.

Although we may need a certain amount of consumer items, we must work diligently to keep consumer spending down, so we can keep our investing in assets up.

4. God will bless us based on our profitability. Notice that the master blessed the profitable servants at their levels of profitability.

The most profitable was most blessed. The moderately profitable was moderately blessed. In similar fashion, God will bless us in proportion to our being profitable.

If we live on less than we make, so we can invest in profitable assets then we can look forward to retirement with dignity. We can enjoy some of the luxuries of this world.

5. God will also punish lack of profit. Notice that the master had no patience for the unprofitable servant. Not only was the money taken back from him, but he was severely punished. God is a merciful God, but at some point, justice requires dealing with sin.

It is sin to take what God has given us for His glory and profit and use it for simply our creature comforts. Therefore, we should learn and apply financial stewardship principles, so we can be profitable and blessed, instead of unprofitable and punished.

In summary, God owns everything, and we are simply His stewards. God has given us what He knows we can manage. He expects us to be profitable.

In fact, He will bless us at our level of profitable financial stewardship. And He will punish lack of profitability. Click here for my review of Rev. Terry Dean's package of "Christian Financial Freedom."
